Peer Support

Real-Time Peer Support

You talk to a real person. We walk alongside you, especially during moments of transition, uncertainty, or challenge.

What is Peer Support?

I’ve walked a similar road – you don’t have to do this alone.

A peer is someone who’s been there – a fellow Veteran or spouse who shares similar life experiences. There is no rank, no chain of command, and no authority, just two people walking alongside one another with mutual respect, navigating life’s challenges. Shared experience builds understanding, trust, and connection in a way that feels safe, real, and relatable.

how NMA Connects You

Service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off – and neither does support.

Accessing support is often overwhelming, and for some, traditional services can feel clinical, transactional, or difficult to access. Getting connected is simple: complete our intake form.

You’ll be matched with a peer who will work at your pace, based on what feels most comfortable and accessible.

Why Peer Support Works

The hardest part isn’t just what you’ve been through – it’s feeling disconnected.

Disconnection can deepen isolation, increase stress, and make it harder to trust or reach out. Peer support creates space for belonging, restores trust, and supports veterans as they move forward with greater stability and confidence. Peer support works because it’s grounded in shared military culture and lived experience.

is peer support right for you?

Facing challenges is easier when someone who understands has your back.

You remain in control of your journey, and peer support helps strengthen the path forward. This may include:

  • offering emotional support from someone who understands military life.
  • providing education on healthy coping skills for stress, transitions, and trauma.
  • supporting self‑advocacy within the VA, healthcare, or community systems.
  • partnering in Veteran‑ and family‑driven goal setting.
  • helping navigate VA benefits, military resources, and community supports.
  • providing support through strength-based and trauma‑informed care.
